Instagram Tests Desktop Publishing Feature
Instagram is testing a new desktop publishing feature that lets users share images and videos directly from their computer.
For more than a decade, folks have relied on their smartphones to capture, edit, and post content on Instagram. But the Facebook-owned social network has evolved from filtered photos of everyday life into a semi-professional space.
"We know that many people access Instagram from their computer," a Facebook spokesperson tells Bloomberg. "To improve that experience, we're now testing the ability to create a Feed post on Instagram with their desktop browser."
Social media consultant and self-described "prolific industry tipster and leaker" Matt Navarra first spotted the change on Thursday, when he shared screenshots of creating and publishing posts via instagram.com. It appears the same mobile functions—uploading multiple photos, adding filters, making edits—are available on desktop, too.
"I suspect Instagram's decision to add publishing via desktop is part of a much bigger plan for the platform going forward," Navarra tells Bloomberg. The firm has been busy launching new ways to entice folks to its platform
